Justin Bowen – Founder

Justin is a native of Chicago, IL where he attended John Marshall High School and was a star basketball player and student athlete. He graduated with honors and was awarded Athlete of the Year, and achieved the accolades of All City and All State.

Justin graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) playing for the UIC Flames. Throughout his collegiate career, he led the team towards the school’s best record of 24-8, participated in the NCAA tournament where his team faced Kansas University, was Captain of his collegiate team, and received All Conference and MVP honors his Senior year.

Following graduation from UIC, Justin played for the Chicago Bulls Summer League team in Orlando, FL. From there he went to play in Switzerland before eventually returning stateside to play for the NBA San Antonio Spurs and their affiliate team (Austin Toros) development team.  Under the all-star coaching and tutelage of both the Boston Celtics NBA hall of fame player Dennis Johnson, and the Utah Jazz Head Coach Quinn Synder, Justin helped lead the Austin Toros to a Western Conference Championship win, and then to the NBA development league finals to face off with the Idaho Stampede.  During this time, Justin had an opportunity to learn the Art of Coaching as well as become a Trainer to the rookies on his team.  After leaving the development league, Justin rounded out his playing career overseas playing in countries such as Australia, South Korea, Japan, and China.

Once Justin decided to expand his basketball teachings to young athletes, he began to use those experiences to now train and coach aspiring athletes of all ages and levels.  Justin’s role of coaching began with the Chicago Meanstreets AAU basketball program where his 13U Boys team had an excellent summer in 2015. They won their first four (4) tournaments with a perfect 19-0 record and finished with a 23-1 record. He has also coached the 2015 Nike Global Games in Chicago, IL for team Pan-Africa.

Along with running his own organization, travel league club teams, and non-for profit organization, The GOAT Foundation, Justin is also the Head Coach of the Boys Varsity Basketball team at Kenwood Academy in Chicago’s Hyde Park.  In his team’s first season, the team had much success and made it to the 2019-2020 City Playoff’s Elite 8 and made it to the State Regional Playoffs Finals.

Trainer – Faisal

Coach Faisal is basketball trainer that has been training basketball players from all groups for the past three years. Faisal is originally from North Carolina/Virginia but has been in the greater Chicagoland area since 2012. Growing up in North Carolina, basketball became a passion of Coach Faisal’s at a very young age, as it the most popular past time in the state! Inevitably, Coach Faisal would go on to be a three year varsity letterman in high school, receiving scholarship from a small Division III college in North Carolina, but decided to focus more on “life after basketball” and attend North Carolina State University, in Raleigh, NC, where me majored in Biology and Pre-Med.
Upon graduation from college, he went on to attend medical school which is what brought him to Chicago. Upon completion of medical school, he found an opportunity to get back into the basketball world by training and focusing on skill development of the youth of Chicago. Being a physician as well as a coach he has become better known as “Coach Doc” to his players. He was truly honored to be given the opportunity to partner with Coach Justin at the GOAT Sports Academy. Coach Faisal, has also been the manager of the GOAT Sports Foundation as well. He is looking forward to helping the program as well as the foundation grow day to day and can’t wait to see what the future holds!
